Family Learning - How to Reduce News Related Anxiety in Your Child

Course intent

You will develop your skills and knowledge to support your Child with understanding the world around them through news stories. This will positively impact on your family wellbeing

What will I learn?

.This is a FREE online two-week course (2-hour sessions). You will work with the tutor and other parents on how to introduce child-friendly news to your child and create a safe space for discussion.

  • Develop ways of reading news that is tailored for your child and can help them understand the world without overwhelming them.
  • Understand the importance of being mindful of the intense news and what you choose to share.
  • Learn skills in how to summarise it in a way that focuses on positive outcomes or solutions.

    .This course is suitable for parents, carers and grandparents who live in ÖйúPÕ¾ and want to learn how to how to reduce news related anxiety in your child. Delivered on Zoom

    What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

    • Provide a mobile phone number and email address when you enrol so that we can contact you about your course.
    • Please attend all sessions
    • A reliable internet connection
    • A computer/laptop/tablet or phone with a fully updated browser (preferably Google Chrome), microphone and camera
    • A pen and paper
    • Check your email for detailed joining instructions two days before course starts.
    • Fill out the ‘Getting to know you’ form and the `Tell us what you think` form
    • Contact us on family.learning@surreycc.gov.uk if you have any questions
    • What can I do when I finish the course?

      At the end of this course, we will give you details of what you can move on to next, for example volunteering, further courses with ÖйúPÕ¾ Adult Learning, a college or employment

      .We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
