Clock Repair Workshop

Course intent

This workshop will give you a short introduction to the heritage craft of horology. You will explore clocks, their mechanisms, and how to mend, clean and repair them. Learn with a skilled craftsman who has worked on the clock at Big Ben and other major historic clock collections.

What will I learn?

You will learn:

  • how a clock works
  • how to safely dismantle and reassemble a clock
  • typical repair procedures
  • how to clean, oil and assemble to working order

    This course is for beginners or those who need to brush up their skills.

    What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

    You need to bring:

  • a clock with a pendulum to work on
  • plastic boxes with sealable lids to put parts in
  • any tools you might have
  • a notebook and pen
  • closed toe shoes
  • apron or wear old clothes

What can I do when I finish the course?

Learners can progress onto many opportunities to take up other art & craft classes, including longer clock repair and horology courses.

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
