Course intent
Commemorate a special personal event, such as a birthday, wedding or anniversary. Learn simple but beautiful embroidery and beading to produce an heirloom piece of work to treasure.
What will I learn?
You will learn:
- How to design and trace a pattern to commemorate a special, or personal, event
- Simple embroidery techniques to ‘write’ your special message.
- How to secure your work and prepare it to be framed.
- An occasion and information about the event you would like to commemorate.
- Fabric with a sentimental attachment or a large fragment from, for example, a wedding dress, or a piece of old linen, at least 50 x 50 cm. You can also use new fabric.
- A circular wooden embroidery frame which will fit onto your fabric.
- A selection of embroidery floss, including either a skein of gold or silver.
- A disappearing ink pen.
- Embroidery scissors.
- 2-3mm Beads/pearls/crystals etc which have 2 holes.
- Beading needle.
- Embroidery needle.
- A reel of good quality machine thread to match your fabric, such as Gutermann thread.

You might enjoy other embroidery workshops, such as Sewing - Hand Embroidery - Applique & Ribbon Embroidery - All Abilities Workshop on the 15th March in Guildford (Michelle Calvert) and Sewing - Hand Embroidery - Sashiko & Boro Workshop (with Sonja Galsworthy) on the 7th June. For longer courses, there is the 5 week Sewing for Home - Bed canopy or bespoke Playhouse - All Abilities on Wednesday evenings, followed by Sewing for Home - All Abilities starting on the 11th June with your tutor Michelle Calvert.
