Course intent

Stumpwork techniques create raised, three-dimensional embroidery designs. During this workshop, you will have the opportunity to explore some essential techniques. Gain confidence and progress your embroidery skills. Stumpwork designs are varied and imaginative offering scope for a high degree of creativeness.

What will I learn?

You will learn:

• About wired and non-wired fabric slips
• Several padding options
• How to apply a range of 3D surface stitches like picots and buttonholes bars.
• How to draw inspiration from design sources
• About embroidery stitches required to complete a design

  Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

  This course is for learners with some embroidery experience who want to expand their knowledge to this medium.

  What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

  You need to bring:

• A pencil
• Light-coloured cotton fabric (e.g. calico)
• Coloured fabric for slips
• 2 ring frames
• A variety of stranded cottons
• Different sized needles
• Embroidery scissors
• Fine paper covered sugar craft wire
• Felt and toy stuffing or wadding

Other optional equipment will be available to purchase on the day at additional cost.

What can I do when I finish the course?

In discussion with your tutor, you may like to progress onto a longer embroidery course with ÖйúPÕ¾ Adult Learning for a more in-depth personal development including designing your own work or to other embroidery related workshops or sewing courses to enhance further learning.
