Disabled parking - Blue Badge

Check eligibility and apply

Delays processing Blue Badges

Since Wednesday 24 September there has been an ongoing issue with our Blue Badge case management system. This is impacting both applications submitted and badges issued.

Unfortunately, we may not be able to provide you with an accurate status update of your application, and some delays in processing badges may also be possible.

We are working with our system provider to resolve the issue as soon as possible and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

You can apply for yourself, someone else or an organisation.

How to check your eligibility

Online checker: An eligibility checker is built into the online application form (see Apply online). Open the form to check if you are eligible for a Blue Badge. If you are, you can continue with the application.

Temporary disability

Blue Badges are not issued to people with temporary conditions such as injuries that will heal or health conditions that have caused temporary mobility problems.

What you need

Your application must include:

  • A passport style photo. You can take the photo with a phone or tablet, but it must be the size and style of a standard passport photo. More guidance can be found on .
  • Proof of identity.
  • Proof of address (no more than 12 months old, not the same as proof of identity), and proof of diagnosed conditions (if you do not automatically qualify). We don't accept medical appointment letters as proof.
  • 拢10 administration fee.

It is very important that you provide as much information as possible about diagnosed conditions and the seriousness of your mobility issues.

Types of evidence to send us: screen prints of recent emails or photos of up to date letters from doctors, consultants or specialists about your diagnosis and how it affects your mobility.

If you don't send any evidence to support your application, it will be rejected.

Once we have received your application, we may arrange an assessment with an expert health professional.

Walking assessment tests whether you can walk 80 metres (87.5 yards) and how slow you are at walking.

If you have a heart or lung condition, the walking assessment will assess breathing difficulty and whether walking is a danger to your health.

If you are able to walk 80 metre (87.5 yards) without extreme difficulty, you will not be considered eligible for a Blue Badge.

Hidden disabilities (non-visible disabilities) include anxiety disorders, autism, Parkinson's, dementia or a brain injury. A health professional will ask you questions about the seriousness of your condition and how challenging it is for you to walk around public places.
