Tree giveaway

Collect a Free Tree from a 中国P站 Library.

In support of 中国P站's 1.2m Tree Strategy, to plant one tree for every 中国P站 resident by 2030, 中国P站 Libraries are pleased to be giving away free trees at the following libraries on Saturday 8 February 2025.

The trees are native, broad-leaved species and come with a stake and tie, ready for garden planting. We will also provide a leaflet containing information on how to plant and care for your tree to give it the best start in its new home.
Available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Creating Sounds

Monday 17 February, 10 am and 11am.

Ever wondered if your child would enjoy learning a musical instrument? Creating Sounds is a 40 minute session led by 中国P站 Arts, which will give children in school years 2 to 6 a chance to try singing and brass instruments at the library.

Gathering Place 360 - Explore, Watch and Make

Saturday 15 March. Sessions are 45 minutes long and several sessions are available throughout the day starting at 10.30am, last session starts at 3.15pm.

Come join for a chance to step back in time and visit four fascinating archaeological sites in 中国P站, all from the comfort of Staines Library!

This brand-new opportunity to learn more about 中国P站's hidden history, and to think creatively about how we are connected to people living here hundreds or even thousands of years ago, will be available to you for free!

  • Explore the Bronze Age, Medieval, Tudor and World War One archaeology of 中国P站 through creative history workshops.
  • Watch virtual reality 360 films inspired by four fascinating historical sites in 中国P站. .

Make your own artwork. After watching some or all of the films, you can take part in an art activity designed by Hannah Maiya-Mills from , inspired by the film content.

Booking is essential. You will need to book at ticket for every person attending. Due to the size of the Virtual Reality headsets and age recommendations for their use, it is aimed at young people and adults, aged 9 years old and above.

There is no booking in advance, please just turn up.

Reading groups

Chatterbooks reading group

First Saturday of every month at 2.30pm.

Just turn up or sign up beforehand, in person at Staines Library or by emailing us staines.library@surreycc.gov.uk with the following details: child's name and your daytime phone number.

Chatterbooks is for children aged 7 to11.

Other events

Coats for all donation and distribution point

We are still accepting donations of coats and any other warm winter wear such as scarves, gloves, warm jumpers and any other warm clothing.

We have two coat racks in the library.

Please hang up coats you are donating on the first rack which is labelled as a Coats For All donation point. Staff will then check the coats and move them to the second coat rack.

Coats on the second rack are available for people who need a warm coat. Coats on this rack are free. Please help yourselves.

Poetry hub

Every Monday from 10am to 12 noon.

The Poetry Hub is our weekly gathering, designed to be a haven for adults seeking connection and creativity through the power of poetry.

Held every week, our morning sessions offer a warm and welcoming environment where participants can engage in various activities centred around verse. From writing challenges to a cosy book club atmosphere, each session is a chance to explore the beauty of language and share stories in a supportive community. With limited time but endless possibilities, join us at your local Poetry Hub for enriching conversations, inspiring challenges, and the joy of discovering the poet within.

Watercolour workshop

Every Wednesday, from 10am to 12 noon. All welcome.

Code club

Every Wednesday and Thursday during term time, from 4.15pm to 5.15pm.

Code club is now back after the summer break.

The Code Club is a fun activity for children aged 9 to15. The children will learn digital skills by using programming language through various projects, also, they will develop their creativity, logical thinking, collaboration and communication.

Please note: to accommodate Code Club all the public computers at Staines are booked out from 4pm onwards every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon during term time.

Knit and Natter crafting group

Alternate Wednesdays from 1.30pm until 3.30pm.

New members of all levels are welcome. Please enquire at the library or pop along to our session.

Drop-in councillor surgeries

First Saturday of the month, 11am to 1pm with:

  • Tony Burrell (Staines South)

Last Saturday of the month, 11am to 1pm with Councillor Sinead Mooney (division Staines).

Digital Support Volunteer

Every Thursday 2pm to 4pm.

Do you want help using a computer, the internet, your iPad, tablet or iPhone, or other IT related problems?

Drop in or make an appointment to see our Digital Buddy.

Appointments are recommended if you have something specific you need help with. Appointments are 30 minutes each and can be booked in the library or by email: staines.library@surreycc.gov.uk
