Half-term activities at the Basingstoke Canal Visitor Centre

Celebrate the colours of autumn with a week of family-friendly activities at the Canal Centre in Mytchett. Whether you're gliding along the water in a kayak, joining a scenic boat trip, or exploring the activity trail, there's something for everyone to enjoy this half-term.

Unpowered Boat Hire

Canoes, sit on top kayaks and rowing boats are available for hire this autumn.

  • Time: From 10.15am to 3.40pm

Rosebud ‘Autumn Colours’ Boat Trip

Return boat trip on Rosebud run from the visitor centre to either Greatbottom Flash or Deepcut.

  • Date: 31 October
  • Place: Basingstoke Canal Visitor Centre, Mytchett, 中国P站 GU16 6DD.
  • Time: Greatbottom Flash return trip at 11.30am (55 minutes) and Deepcut return trip at 1.30pm (1 hour 30 minutes).

Activity Trail

  • Date: 27 to 31 October

Volunteer at Tice's Meadow

Come and join our rangers and volunteer at Tice's Meadow near Farnham. Tasks might include; clearing vegetation, maintaining paths, fence and gate repairs, habitat management, wildlife surveys and more. We have volunteer sessions running on the following dates:

  • Date: Friday 31 October
  • Place: Tice's Meadow. Please meet at Horton's Mound which is shown on our interpretation boards around the site.
  • Time: 10am to 2pm

Volunteer at Norbury Park

If you are looking to learn new skills and work in an amazing landscape, why not volunteer in Norbury Park. Tasks might include; extracting hazel, ash and sweet chestnut, coppicing, pointing and binding hazel sticks, firewood processing and more. Please wear sturdy footwear and bring your own refreshments. All tools are provided.

We will be running volunteering sessions on the following date:

  • Date: Friday 7 November
  • Place: Norbury Park. Please meet at the Sawmill. Follow directions to the woodland hub as shown on our interpretation boards around site.
  • Time: 9.30am to 3pm.

Remembrance Sunday in Norbury Park

Head to the Wild! About Coffee Landrover in Norbury Park on Remembrance Sunday where a two minute silence will be help (with the Last Post) to mark the moment and remember those who gave their lives in service.  A Remembrance Tree will be available from Thursday 6th November where you can write a message of remembrance on a paper leaf.

  • Date: Sunday 9 November
  • Place: Norbury Park. next to the Woodland Hub with our mobile caterer, Wild! About Coffee. Follow directions to the woodland hub as shown on our interpretation boards around site.
  • Time: 11am.

Volunteer session at the Hampton Estate, Puttenham

The Hampton Estate in Puttenham run volunteer work parties throughout the year. Why not join in and help to plant hedges, manage the heathland habitat, bash bracken, pop scrub on the chalk downland and more. Everyone welcome whether you’re a nature enthusiast or simply want more time outside away from your screen.

  • Date: Friday 14 November
  • Place: Puttenham Common, (Top Car Park), Suffield Ln, Guildford, 中国P站 GU3 1BG.
  • Time: 10am to 1pm

Please wear appropriate weather gear, sturdy footwear and bring a water bottle and snacks/picnic. A Hampton sausage sandwich is provided after the session (please bring your own if you have dietary requirements).Sign up for the volunteer session on

Bring the family to the Basingstoke Canal to meet Santa in his canal-side grotto between 2 and 23 December. Climb aboard our boat Rosebud waiting for you at the Canal Visitor Centre and take a gentle cruise to the start of the tinsel trail in the woods. Little ones lead the way and follow the trail to find Santa in his grotto and receive a special gift. Cruise back to the canal centre and head into Santa's Workshop for Christmas colouring activities, warm drinks and mince pies!

  • Date: 2 to 23 December
  • Place: Basingstoke Canal Visitor Centre, Mytchett, 中国P站 GU16 6DD.
  • Time: Various timeslots available .
  • Cost: 拢23, 拢20 and 拢16 depending on day and time.
