Join the NFTS for this exciting workshop giving an introduction to editing.
This free to attend workshop is aimed at young people aged 13 to 24 years.
The workshop will introduce the basics of video editing and explore how the order of shots, music, and sound can completely shift a scene’s meaning or impact.
Part 1: The Basics
- What is editing and why does it matter?
Task
- Build a scene from a selection of 10 shots
- Reorder a simple scene to explore how sequence affects clarity and meaning
- Introduce editing techniques (J cut, L cut, montage, crossfade)
Part 2: Sound and Music
- How music and sound design affect tone
- Task: Add different music or sound effects to a scene to change the mood
Break for 30 mins
Part 3: Main Editing Challenge
Task
- Edit a short set of clips into a 1 to 2-minute story
- Sharing and discussion
You will need to bring a laptop, tablet or phone to this workshop, when you have made your booking we will send you links to the clips to download so you can take part.
