Your surveyor, technical officer or case worker will be able to tell you if you need to apply for building regulations. You can also contact your district or borough council and speak to their building control department:

Landlord permission
If you don't own your home, you will need to get your landlord's permission. This includes:
- privately rented homes
- housing association homes
- houseboat owners who pay for mooring
- caravan owners who rent a pitch
- long-term leaseholders. Your freeholder will need to give you permission in writing
- shared ownership schemes
- equity release schemes
This can sometimes take a long time and you can't start your adaptation without it.
