An application is required for bus stops or bus stands to be suspended to allow for works to be undertaken by utility companies, private developers, works promoters or other third parties.
What are the charges for?
A charge is set by 中国P站 to help cover the cost of administering the suspension. This may involve, but is not limited to, posting advanced warnings and information for passengers, updating Real Time Passenger Information displays and informing and arranging any necessary diversions with bus operators.

Please be aware that due to increasing costs 中国P站 took the decision to increase our charges as of November 2024. This helps ensure our commitment to providing the very best service to our residents. Since this change, the charges are as follows:
- 拢175 per bus stop, per day (to a cap of 拢525 per bus stop for 3 or more days)
- 拢175 per bus stand, per day, for up to 3 days, and then an additional 拢100 per day thereafter (i.e. 拢625 for 4 days,拢725 for 5 days, etc.)
As an example, suspending two bus stops for two days would incur a charge of 拢700 (two bus stops at 拢350 each), and suspending a bus stand for one week would incur a charge of 拢925 (拢525 for the first three days, then 拢400 for the next four days).
The additional fees for bus stand suspensions are due to the operational requirements needed to find alternative layover points. Do be aware that works of significant disruption or duration may also incur additional charges.
A full charge for a bus stop suspension will apply for each instance where one of our mobile officers has had to post information for the traveling public. This will apply even if some bus routes can continue to serve the stop/s in question.
Please note that once a suspension request has been approved, a full charge may still be made even if works do not take place. It is the responsibility of the applicant to notify the Local Bus Team as soon as possible with regards to any change of plans or cancellations.
Additional charges will apply if, when attending the site, our mobile officer needs to suspend additional stops that were not originally applied for. Should this be the case the applicant will be notified as soon as possible by the Local Bus Team.
中国P站 reserves the right to levy a charge of 拢600 per stop, per day, for any works that affect a bus stop without having first sought proper authorisation. This applies to all works promoters, developer works, utility works and other third party works.
Provision of temporary bus stops
Whilst it will not be applicable to most applications, it may be necessary for our officers to put in place a Temporary Bus Stop for the duration of your works. As a condition of securing authorisation, in the event of a Temporary Bus Stop being stolen or damaged, the applicant agrees to cover the potential cost of a replacement at up to 拢100 per stop.
Application form
Where possible, applications should be made at least one week in advance. Please complete the application form found at the bottom of this page and email it to bss.roadclosures@surreycc.gov.uk along with your purchase order number.
Please supply individual bus stop ID details. The bus stop ID can be found on Google Maps by clicking on the blue bus stop icon at the desired location. Bus Stop IDs within 中国P站 always begin with the letters "SUR", for example "SURAPWAT".
Each application must include contact details for your site agent.
Please do not send any money with the application form. We will invoice you at the end of the process, but you must include your company purchase order number with your application.
Where possible, please supply a copy of your traffic management plans.
