Temporary changes to bus services for road closures

Temporary changes or road closure information that may affect your journey by bus will be listed below when details are available. This information is supplied in good faith and is accurate at the time of publishing. Passengers should be aware that changes in road closure schedules can affect the start and length of works and checks should be made with the bus operator before travelling.

Burrows Lane, Gomshall (Level Crossing Closure)

Due to the closure of the Burrows Lane Level Crossing in Gomshall, the Compass 25 service will be on diversion for approximately 2 weeks from Monday 15 September. As a result, the service will be on diversion between Newlands Corner and Burrows Cross via Sherbourne, New Road, Park Road, Little London and Hook Road. The bus stops at Silent Pool, as well as those in Shere and Gomshall will not be served.

Please note that the school day only journeys on the 25 service will continue to operate to Silent Pool, Shere and Gomshall as normal (excluding the bus stops on Burrows Lane itself), though due to the extended diversion necessary passengers should expect delays to these journeys.

New Road, Chilworth (Level Crossing Closure)

Due to the closure of the level crossing on New Road, Chilworth the Metrobus 32 service will be on diversion on Sunday 14 September for 1 day only. As a result the service will operate between Shere and Guildford via Newlands Corner and Merrow (A25) and will be unable to serve the villages of Albury, Chilworth and Shalford, as well as bus stops along the A281 between Shalford and Guildford.

A free replacement shuttle bus service will be in operation for the duration of the works, providing links for passengers affected by the closure. One shuttle bus will operate to the standard Sunday 32 service timetable, running between Guildford and Chilworth via Shalford. Another shuttle bus will operate on the other side of the level crossing closure, running from Chilworth to Gomshall via Albury and Shere. This shuttle bus will operate slightly ahead of the regular 32 service towards Dorking, to allow passengers to disembark and change over, and slightly behind the regular 32 service towards Guildford, to pick up passengers alighting in Shere and Gomshall wishing to travel to Albury and Chilworth.

Cottimore Lane, Walton on Thames

On Saturday 13 September, Cottimore Lane in Walton on Thames is closed due to surface dressing work between the hours of 9.30am to 3pm.

Falcon service 461 will divert via the High Street, Hersham Road, Bowes Road, Sidney Road, Rodney Road and then will rejoin the normal line of route.

Hook Road, Epsom

On Tuesday 9 September, Hook Road in Epsom has been closed by Thames Water due to emergency water works. The closure is by the junction with Brettgrave and is expected to last until 12 September.

Falcon service E5 is on diversion via Chessington Road and Longmead Road.

Station Approach, West Byfleet

From Tuesday 9 September, Station Approach in Byfleet will be closed between the hours of 8pm to 6am for 4 nights.

Falcon service 436 will divert via Sheerwater Road and Old Woking Road to serve the Waitrose bus stop for passengers for West Byfleet Station and will then resume its normal line of route. It will do the same in reverse.

Falcon service 456 will divert via Sheerwater Road, Old Woking Road and Camphill Road and will then resume its normal line of route. It will do the same in reverse.

The Street, West Horsley

From Monday 8 September, The Street in West Horsley is closed for one week due to new water connection works by Affinity Water.

Reptons service 478 will divert via Epsom Road and Ockham Road South and bus stops on The Street, East Lane or Ockham Road North will not be served while thw works are in place.

Stoke Road, Guildford

From Monday 8 September, Stoke Road in Guildford will be closed in the Northbound direction by St John's Church for 5 days due to works by UK Power Networks.

Buses will divert via Woodbridge road and Ladymead, and will not be able to serve bus stops on Stoke Road.

Headley Road, Headley

Due to gas main replacement works, Headley Road in Headley (either side of the junction with A24 Leatherhead By-pass Road) will be closed from Tuesday 2 September for up to 2 months.

During this time the Metrobus 21 service will be on diversion, and will not be able to serve bus stops along Headley Road, Clay Lane and Church Lane. The service will instead operate between Pebble Coombe and Leatherhead via Headley Common Road, Leech Lane, Mill Way, Reigate Road and Highlands Road.

Send Marsh Road, Send

From Monday 1 September, Send Marsh Road in Send will be closed until approximately 19 December due to gas works.

White Bus services 462 and 463 will divert via Send Barns Lane and Portsmouth Road in both directions. The bus stops at Old Hall, Send Marsh Green, Tuckey Grove and Send Marsh Road (on Send Marsh Road) will not be served.

Farnham Town Centre Improvement Works

From Monday 18 August, as part of the Farnham town centre improvement works, Downing Street in Farnham will be closed until 1 November 2025. In addition, the bus stop at The Borough will not be accessible and will be temporarily moved to outside Jack and Alice on The Borough. Bus services will be diverted as below:

Stagecoach 4 - Will continue to divert via the A31 and West Street. The alternative bus stop to The Borough is on Castle Street. There are also minor changes to the timetable.
Stagecoach 5 – Will continue to divert via the A31 and West Street. The alternative bus stop to the Borough is the temporary bus stop outside Jack and Alice. There are also minor changes to the timetable.
Stagecoach 16/18/19 - Towards Aldershot, the bus will divert via the A31 and West Street and will not be able to serve Union Road. The alternative bus stop to the Borough and Union Road is the temporary bus stop outside Jack and Alice. The rest of the timetable is unchanged.
Stagecoach 46 – The service will divert via Farnham Railway Station to enter Farnham via South Street, and will then terminate on Union Road. The return journey will continue to leave Union Road via Long Bridge and Firgrove Hill. There are also minor changes to the timetable.
Stagecoach 65 – Towards Alton, the bus will divert via South Street and the A31 and will not be able to serve bus stops on West Street named Downing Street, Mead Lane, The Chantrys and Coxbridge Farm. The rest of the timetable, and buses towards Guildford are unchanged.
Stagecoach 404 – The 0751 journey from Farnham Hospital will leave five minutes earlier and will divert via the A31 and West Street. The alternative bus stop to the Borough and Union Road is on Castle Street.

Thursley Road, Elstead

From 21 July, Thursley Road in Elstead is closed due to gas works until 26 September.

Stagecoach service 46 will not be able to serve bus stops along Thursley Road and the nearest stop will be Elstead Green.

A3 Portsmouth road closures

National Highways are carrying out major safety improvement works to the A3 Wisley Interchange (M25 Junction 10). As a result there will be a series of weekend road closures at this location.

Update: Friday 12 September to Monday 15 September

From 9pm on Friday 12 September to 6am on Monday 15 September the A3 will be closed southbound from the Painshill roundabout to Send. While the A3 is closed Falcon services 714/715 will divert via Downside Bridge Road, Downside Road, Horsley Road, Forest Road, Ockham Road South and Ockham Road North. The 715 will then continue on the normal line of route heading towards Ripley and 714 will continue towards RHS Wisley Gardens.

Bus stops at Between Streets, Fire Station, Painshill Roundabout and Ockham Park Turn will not be served in the Guildford direction.

As the nature of the closures may change as works progress, and different diversions may be necessary, we would advise passengers wishing to travel on these services to check the and websites for further updates before travelling.

A320 Guildford Road, Chertsey

As part of the A320 North of Woking Improvements Scheme there are road works taking place on the A320 Guildford Road that will affect bus services. There will be a series of evening and weekend closures by St Peter's Hospital and this page will be updated when further works are announced.

While the road is closed, White Bus service 446 and Falcon service 461 will be diverting via Foxhill Road, Stonehill Road and Holloway Hill and will be using the hospital entrance on Holloway Hill to serve the St Peter's Hospital bus stop. The buses will do the same in reverse.

High Street, Godstone

Due to a major sinkhole appearing in the carriageway, High Street, Godstone (between the junctions with A25 Oxted Road and Salisbury Road) has been closed from 18 February until further notice. Reports indicate the road will most likely remain closed for several months.

As a result of this closure the Metrobus 400, 409 and 410 services are on diversion and cannot use Godstone High Street. Passengers are advised to catch their bus from the "Godstone Green" bus stop (near the Needle's Bank public toilets) instead. In addition the 410 service will also be unable to serve the "Crowhurst Mead" or "Church Lane" bus stops on the A25 Oxted Road.

With regards to school services, the Metrobus 612 service for Oxted School will also be on diversion, and will be unable to serve the "Crowhurst Mead" or "Church Lane" bus stops on A25 Oxted Road. Passengers for this service should either catch the bus from the "Godstone Green" bus stop (near the Needle's Bank public toilets) or can alternatively catch the Metrobus 611 service to Oxted School from the "Crowhurst Mead" and "Church Lane" bus stops on A25 Oxted Road. Passengers should bear in mind that this service operates slightly earlier than the Metrobus 612 service, arriving at the "Crowhurst Mead" bus stop at 07:59, to arrive at Oxted School for 08:14.

Metrobus service 430 and 435

From 29 October 2022, Metrobus services 430 and 435 will not serve Royal Earlswood Park, Prince's Road and Earlsbrook Road due to operational issues until further notice. Bus stops along Woodlands Road will still be served as normal.
