Half term activities
From Monday 27 October to Friday 31 October.
Our theme this October half term is “Halloween and all things Spooky!”
All week during our regular opening hours you can:
- Complete our Halloween themed treasure hunt
- Add to our Halloween themed “Spooky Board”
- Have fun with our Halloween themed colouring in and quizzes
Autism friendly Lego Club for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SAND) families
Saturday 25 October, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.
Lego Club for SAND families with a focus on autism. We will be running the autism friendly Lego session in one of our enclosed meeting rooms with space to build Lego creations either at a table or on the floor. There will be a quiet space available.
Suitable for ages 4+ years. Children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the session.
Cost : 拢1 per child (pay on the day).
Booking is essential, one ticket for every child taking part.

David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation: Create a creature
Tuesday 28 October, from 10.30am to 11.30am.
Come along to our free creative workshop to find out about endangered animals with the support of the .
Learn about four different habitats where endangered animals live, then get creative and design and make your own creature in cardboard and craft materials. Children will think about why their creatures’ features will help it survive in its habitat. Please note: younger children will need more support.
Suitable for ages 5 to 10. Children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the session.
Event free but booking is essential, one ticket for every child taking part.

Halloween craft

Let your spooky imagination run wild!
British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) 500 Words Creative Writing Workshop with local children’s author, Kerri Patel
Wednesday 29 October, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.
Have you been thinking of writing a story for the BBC’s 500 Words Competition but didn’t know how to go about it? Local children’s author Kerri Patel, author of "Riley and Ricky: Two houses, Two different homes", will help you get started and guide you on how to enter your story into the competition.
There are two age categories: 5-7 year olds and 8-11 year olds and the deadline for entries is 9pm on Friday 7 November.
The 500 Words Competition is the UK's largest children's writing competition, inviting children to write a fictional story of 500 words or less. Winners receive book bundles, and gold winners also provide books for their school library, with the ultimate prize being the opportunity to attend a grand final at Buckingham Palace.
Suitable for ages 5 to 11.
Cost: 拢1 per child (payment to be made at the time of booking).
Booking is essential - one ticket for every child taking part. Children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the session.

Drawing Workshop: Learn know to draw fairy houses
Thursday 30 October, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.
Learn how to draw with a toadstool house or pumpkin house.
Suitable for ages 7 to 11 years

Explore Learning: Maths wizard workshops
- Friday 31 October, from 10.30am to 11.30am. Suitable for ages all 5 to 7
- Friday 31 October, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm. Suitable for ages all 7 to 9
For ages 5 to 7
This workshop is for all 5-7 year olds, whether maths comes easily or not. Multiplication continues to be an area of difficulty for many children throughout primary school. Children will be taken through the steps to become maths wizards. They will use the 2, 5 and 10 times tables to create the perfect magic potion.
Suitable for ages 5 to 7 years.
For ages 7 to 9
This workshop is suitable for all 7-9 year olds whether maths comes easily or not. Multiplication continues to be an area of difficulty for many children throughout primary school. Children will be taken through the steps to become maths wizards. They will use the 3, 4, 6 and 8 times tables to create the perfect magic potion.
The Explore Learning team will coach your child to use problem solving skills to overcome challenges and fall in love with mathematics.
Explore Learning is a maths and English tuition provider that is trusted by parents, loved by kids and boasts 20 years of success.
Workshops are free but booking required, one ticket for every child taking part.

Pebble rhymetime and storytime

Spaces are limited. Tickets are available from the library desk on the day, one ticket per family group. Tickets allocated on a first come first served basis. Please come early to avoid disappointment.

Sensory rhymetime
A fun rhymetime for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SAND) families with a focus on autism.
Selected Saturdays, 2 sessions, each session based on an age group:
- 10.30 to 10.50am, for ages 0 to 4 years
- 11.10 to 11.30am, for ages 5 to 9 years

A designated room with low lighting, sensory toys and a separate "quiet" room next door.
Booking necessary. Parents attending sessions as a lone adult are welcome to bring along a maximum of two children. We understand that some children may need a higher level of support to ensure their safety and participation, and in these circumstances, it might be helpful for a lone parent to bring along one child only initially.

Storytime
Active storytime
Fridays in term time only, from 10.30am until 11am.
Active Storytime is a fun, interactive session aimed at pre-schoolers. We read a story, sing a song, and then do a couple of simple and fun activities (such as a game, a teddy bear hunt around the library, or a simple craft) on a different theme each week. Please wear clothes suitable for play/craft.
Suitable for ages 2 to 5.
No booking needed, just turn up!
Cost: 拢1 per child.

Every third Tuesday of the month, from 2.30pm pm to 3.30pm.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Questioning Plus (LGBTQ+) Reading Friends
First Saturday of the month, from 2.30pm to 4pm.
中国P站 Libraries, in partnership with The Reading Agency, will be hosting a monthly Reading Friends group at Horley Library for members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Questioning Plus (LGBTQ+) community to come together around a shared love of reading.
Run by LGBTQ+ members of staff, the groups will have discussions and recommendations on a different subject each month. They will always be confidential, supportive, and positive spaces.
You can express an interest in joining this group by completing our or by speaking to a member of staff in Horley Library.

Chatterbooks reading group
Horley Chatterbooks is a fun children’s reading group that meets once a month on a Saturday from 10am to 11am.
Suitable for children aged 7 to 11. The group reads a different book each month, and when we meet, we talk about the book and have fun with quizzes, games or crafts.

Horley library local history centre
Horley Local History Centre is based in Horley Library, and you can use the local history centre resources at any time that the library is open.
Even better, visit us at the following time each week when volunteers are available to help you use the resources and equipment.
Saturday 10am to 12 noon. In the meantime should you have any history questions please contact jeanpelham@sky.com.

Board games club
Every Tuesday from 10.30am until 12 noon.
Join us in a welcoming and friendly environment to play a variety of board games, including Qwirkle, Mastermind, and Scrabble. Feel free to bring your own board or card game as well!

English conversation group
Every Wednesday 10.30am to 11.30am
For adults with English as a second language.
Would you like to practice your spoken English with a relaxed and friendly group? Then come along and join us. The group will be led by friendly and supportive facilitators.
Free. No need to book.
Digital Support Volunteer

- Every Friday from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
