Works start 29 September to end of December

Access improvements are coming to a well-loved stretch of the Basingstoke Canal. The project works will run through to the end of December 2025, and is being made possible thanks to funding from developer contributions.

What is changing?

This stretch of towpath has long been in need of attention. From potholes and poor drainage, it hasn’t always been the easiest route — especially in wet weather. The upcoming improvements will enhance the surface condition, improve drainage, and address canal bank erosion. The result will be a more accessible and resilient path for year-round use by a wide range of visitors.

Access along the towpath

To carry out the work safely and efficiently, the towpath will need to be fully closed between Locks 15 and 28 and it is advised to follow all onsite signage.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience while we carry out these essential works.

Updates
